Utilization of Human Scale SPIDAR-G in the framework of Assistance to 3D interaction in a semi-immersive AR/VR platform

چکیده
We have developed a generic assistance paradigm to 3D interaction that uses virtual guides to constrain the output of classical 3D interaction techniques, in order to satisfy the requirements of particular applications. In this article, we present this paradigm and its application to three different projects, dealing with robot teleoperation (constraints over precision and security), complex molecules manipulation (biological constraints over the plausible space configurations) and precise 3D navigation in underwater sites. Within these projects, we have used a human scale SPIDAR-GH in a semi-immersive AR/VR platform for assisted selection, manipulation and navigation tasks. Tracking and force feedback capabilities have been tested and some quantitative and qualitative results are presented.

Human-Scale Haptic Interaction Using the SPIDAR
This paper describes the human-scale virtual reality (VR) platform with force feedback developed at the LISA laboratory in Angers (France) in collaboration with Professor Makoto SATO. A human-scale SPIDAR system provides force feedback to user’s hands using 8 motors placed on the corners of a cubic frame (2m x 2.5m) surrounding the user. Stereoscopic images are displayed on a rear-projected lar...
متن کاملWorkshop 2: Storytelling in Virtual Reality Environments
Virtual worlds have become more and more technically perfect. Software and hardware have been developed so that one can see virtual scenarios with high visual complexity. Acoustical and haptical senses are also involved in modern virtual installations. The new challenge in virtual environments is the narrative part. The experience is the very new way of storytelling. As we see the high speed of...
متن کاملDesign of a 3D Navigation Technique Supporting VR Interaction
Multimodality is a powerful paradigm to increase the realness and the easiness of the interaction in Virtual Environments (VEs). In particular, the search for new metaphors and techniques for 3D interaction adapted to the navigation task is an important stage for the realization of future 3D interaction systems that support multimodality, in order to increase efficiency and usability. In this p...
متن کاملHuman-Robot-Interfaces based on Mixed Reality for Underwater Robot Teleoperation
In this paper, we present two Human-Robot interfaces for underwater robot teleoperation. This work is in the context of the Digital Ocean Europe project 1 that aims at digitalizing seafloor sites in 3D imagery using underwater robots (ROVs), and uses this information in order to edit interactive, virtually animated environments that are diffused online. The work presented in this paper concerns...
متن کاملImmersive VR Touch Workbenches: Applications in Engineering and Art
We present a discussion of the potential and anticipated impact of immersive VR touch workbenches for creative 3D work in engineering and art practice. The discussion highlights three recent interaction techniques developed for these applications. Based on this experience, we formulate a set of guidelines and domain specific challenges to guide future practitioners.
